The La Catrina Sacred Heart Halo Crown was created as the centerpiece of our new Día de los Muertos collection — a dramatic composition of deep red roses, antique gold, sacred-heart inspired details, delicate flowers and radiating golden rays that surround the head almost like light.
It is bold. It is romantic. It is unapologetically ornate.
But its beauty was never meant to exist without meaning.
Our fascination with La Catrina has always gone far beyond her extraordinary appearance. What draws us to her is the contrast she carries so naturally: flowers beside the imagery of death, celebration beside remembrance, extraordinary beauty beside the knowledge that life itself is temporary.
And that contrast became the heart of this crown.
A rich bed of red roses surrounds the head, creating the unmistakable floral abundance associated with La Catrina imagery. From between the flowers, individually decorated antique-gold rays rise outward into an imposing halo silhouette.
No two rays feel exactly the same.
Small flowers, jewel-like red accents and sacred-heart inspired ornaments appear throughout the composition, encouraging the eye to travel slowly across the crown and discover new details rather than understand the entire piece at once.
At the ends, touches of brilliant red catch the light and visually connect the outermost edges of the halo back to the roses at its center.
The result is dramatic from a distance and intricate up close.
But perhaps the most important element is the color.
